WHAT WE LOVE...

Beechfield House is an attractive boutique hotel that offers great access to Bath and the National Trust Village of Lacock, located near the unremarkable town of Melksham. What is more, it has a heated outdoor pool in its courtyard that is a lovely place to relax in fine weather and hard to find in this neck of the woods. The late 19th-century house contains 24 bedrooms and a handful of private dining rooms alongside a restaurant and lounge-bar.

We loved sitting out on the patio to eat breakfast on a sunny day, with the pool sparkling to one side and a coffee in hand. We recommend the duck with cauliflower, blackberry, croquette and romanesco.

The Restaurant: four dining rooms and terrace, classic British cuisine. Dishes include ribeye steak and pan-fried sea bass. All-day dining, open daily. Afternoon tea served daily, 2:30-5:30pm.
