WHAT WE LOVE...
This 41-storey historic landmark of Manhattan's Upper East Side offers opulent public areas and luxurious traditionally furnished guest rooms. It maintains the highest standards of service and its restaurant is one of the best in the city. There's a sophisticated lobby bar for live music, cocktails and afternoon tea, and you can enjoy sweeping views of Central Park too. You're minutes away from high class Fifth Avenue shopping, various museums, and several subway stations that will whisk you away to New York's four corners. Make use of the 24-hour fitness and business centres, or head to Rotunda for afternoon snacks, dinner and cocktails in an historic space decked out in striking trompe l'oeil murals. Everyone from Cary Grant to the Rolling Stones has stayed here and it's not surprising.

Style & Character
An older clientele tend to favour this hotel, though not exclusively. The wood-panelled lifts are like stepping into about 1940, and they often have their own lift attendant, something you never see these days.

The hotel's famous Rotunda is completely covered in trompe l'oeil murals. It looks like something from the Renaissance yet was only painted in 1967.

Try a Barbados Mule cocktail, with Tito's vodka, lime, Diplomatico rum and calvados - it certainly has a kick but is very refreshing. Perrine's Malabar shrimp curry, with coconut, curry leaves, tamarind and turmeric rice is tangy, zesty and outstanding.
