WHAT WE LOVE...

Everything is big-scale at the InterContinental Downtown LA. The tallest building west of the Mississippi, the hotel occupies floors 31 to 73 of the Wilshire Grand Center. The entrance has a vast skylight atrium going from the ground floor to the seventh, letting the light flood in. Huge multicolour walls look like mosaic tiles but on closer inspection it's an artwork made up of thousands of little people stacked on top of each other. The hotel's central location and extensive facilities, such as bars, restaurants, a fitness centre, sauna and pool, make it an ideal base for exploring LA. The large, luxurious rooms are quiet, not least because of features like encasing the lifts in six feet of concrete.

We love that you can step right out of the hotel onto the streets and into the very heart of Downtown.

Style & Character

The hotel is popular with both business people, travellers needing a good LA base and couples. With Universal Studios, various museums and galleries nearby and Disneyland 35 minutes away, it's popular with families too. The hi-tech lifts go so fast - 70 floors in under 40 seconds - that your ears pop like you're in an aeroplane.

Food & Drink

Hanging out at rooftop bar and restaurant Spire 73, with incredible views of the city, rows of firepits and great music, is a lovely way to spend an evening. The starter LA Galbi consists of the most delicious strips of beef marinated in soy sauce and Asian pear, blistered shishito peppers and kumchee. A really interesting combination of flavours.

Dekkadance: farm-to-fork dining. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
La Boucherie: steaks, seafood, cocktails, wines. Open Weds-Sun for dinner.
Spire 73: drinks, appetisers, stunning views. Open daily 5pm-midnight.
