WHAT WE LOVE...
Formerly home to the Royal Scottish Automobile Club, the Monte Carlo Rally starting line was at this elegant row of Georgian townhouses overlooking the Blythswood Square gardens - a winning pedigree from the off. Capitalising on grand proportions in quirky, confidently-contemporary style, you'll find bold colours, chic marble floors and bronze capped Corinthian columns, along with a grand piano loitering in one corner of reception; bicycles to borrow are at the other. The bar and restaurant - soaked in sunlight by day, laid-back by night - serves up cocktails, killer tunes and first-class Scottish seafood. Move upstairs and classy calm prevails, from the elegant residents' lounge to well-appointed bedrooms in a sophisticated palette of soothing shades of grey where luxurious bathrooms come as standard.

We enjoyed a quiet turn around the square after dinner before heading in for a nightcap.
Right on your doorstep are the pretty gardens of Blythswood Square, while Glasgow's city centre sights can be accessed by foot.

Rooms in the original part of the hotel with their elegant Georgian sash windows and park views are particularly lovely in the autumn. Ingenious sliding shutters between bathroom and bedroom are perfect for carrying on the conversation (and you can watch television from the bath).

The Mediterranean blue shell-shaped tiles on the bar were like the scales on a glamorous mermaid's tail. We recommend the well-cooked scallops and meltingly tender pork belly, with the bright zing of fresh green apple.
