WHAT WE LOVE...
Overlooking the open parkland of The Stray and minutes from the town centre, and tucked in a parade of smart shops, this former Georgian coaching inn is now a shiny boutique-style hotel. A large, open-plan ground floor bar and restaurant is bright with teal and pale-gold seating, and mirrored walls; cocktails and handsome brasserie-style dishes are on the menu. A popular meeting spot, people spill into the large rear courtyard with heaters and retractable awnings. Bedrooms have a sleek, understated style, some with balconies or terraces, and all with generous bathrooms. It's a ten-minute stroll to the town centre while the fashionable Montpellier Quarter - antique shops, art galleries and famous Yorkshire tea rooms of Bettys - are even closer.

When the weather is warm, pick up a picnic from Weetons deli and head to The Stray for a picnic.
On the south side of Harrogate, on the main road in from Leeds, the hotel is opposite The Stray, a large patch of open grassland, and a ten minute walk from the shops.
By car: Harrogate is 45 mins from Leeds, 1 hour 45 mins from Manchester and 4 hours 30 mins from London. Free on-site parking.
By train: London Kings Cross to Harrogate (via York) takes around 3 hours. The hotel is a five minute walk from the station. thetrainline.com
Style & Character
Perfect for people who prefer the exclusive feel of the location, and a sociable atmosphere, to a town-centre setting. There's nothing remotely Georgian about the interiors, but the bold approach stays just the right side of blingy.
Service & Facilities
The tables and chairs on the front pavement terrace are prime people-watching territory, both dog-walkers on The Stray and well-heeled locals visiting the nearby shops. Dogs are welcomed in first-floor bedrooms, and are given dog-beds, bowls and treats.

While the Penthouse duplexes have a roof terrace, the suites have balconies overlooking the open spaces of the Stray. All rooms have coffee machine, water and bathrobes plus L'Occitane products in the indulgently large, and well-lit, underfloor-heated bathroom.

Food & Drink
Much of the fruit, herbs and vegetables comes from the hotel's own extensive kitchen garden 20 miles away near Thirsk; a nice farm-to-fork touch. The wine list mixes crowd-pleasers and the less expected, is very reasonably priced, and - for a small hotel - has a good choice of champagnes. But, then, this is Harrogate...
West Park Bar and Brasserie: seasonal dishes made with locally sourced produce, dishes include fresh tuna steak and slow cooked pork belly. Open Sun-Thu 8am-10.30pm, Fri & Sat 8am-11.30pm. Mains from £14.
