The King's Head, Holt, Norfolk
Confusingly, there are two King's Heads at Holt - one within the high street of this charming Georgian town, and the other just outside it at Letheringsett. This is the one in the centre of the town, housed in a Grade II-listed building. The pub itself is pleasant enough but generally is pretty average and does not suggest how good the guest rooms are, which are particularly good value considering the local area. There's a popular bar area, an attractive, quieter restaurant serving popular pub classics and some more interesting dishes, and on the first floor three stylish and spacious rooms. Two have kitchenettes and are more like self-catering apartments.
Visit Hot Vinyl Vault, an exceptional and huge record shop a short walk from The King's Head.
In under 30 minutes by car you'll reach the beaches at Sheringham and Cromer.
By car: around 1 hour 50 minutes from Cambridge, 3 hours from London and 3 hours 30 minutes from York. Parking is £8 per day.
By train: there are direct trains to Sheringham from Norwich. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the station. thetrainline.com

Food & Drink
We loved the wide use of fresh ingredients, for example, the daily catch used for the fish and chips. The homemade, locally sourced lamb moussaka made with lamb mince, tomatoes, aubergines, herbs and spices is a treat.
Restaurant: hearty gastropub food. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Mains from £13.50.
Bar: locally sourced beers from the Norfolk Brewhouse.
