Stanwell House, Lymington, New Forest
A smart stylish townhouse in the centre of the Georgian market town of Lymington, popular with yachting folk and their friends. Take a room at the front to watch the comings and goings on the busy high street below, or at the back to enjoy views of their walled garden. Settle into a booth lined with a wallpaper of bookshelves in the buzzy Burcher & Co and tuck into some tapas, have cocktails and afternoon tea in the conservatory, or opt for a three-course meal in the 2-AA rosette restaurant Etain.
We love exploring Lymington's numerous charity shops and smart boutiques on the high street.
The hotel is right in the centre of Lymington, on the edge of the New Forest and ideally placed for exploring Winchester or taking a trip across to the Isle of Wight.
By car: Stanwell House is 2 hours 15 mins from London, 2 hours 30 mins from Bristol and 1 hour from Portsmouth. There is free parking near the hotel.
By train: London Waterloo to Lymington Town (via Brockenhurst) takes 1 hour 50 mins. The station is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. thetrainline.com
Style & Character
Rooms in the original Georgian building have period character, while those in the garden wing are quieter. We love that all the table tops in Bircher & Co are carved from the trunk of a single tree.
Service & Facilities
We love the passion staff have for their place of work and readiness to share tips to make your trip more enjoyable. Six rooms are dog-friendly - the garden suite and five standard rooms. All have doors to the garden, hard floors and come with dog bed, bowl, treats and a map of local walks.
- Free Wi-Fi
Room 29, with a separate living area and a large balcony overlooking the garden, is our favourite, and the vintage telephones are a nice touch. Treat yourself to a suite and you'll get a Nespresso machine and robes.
