WHAT WE LOVE...

This elegant 116-room hotel tucked away in Amsterdam's eastern quarter in a corner of Osterpark was once a late 19th-century orphanage and retains numerous characterful original features. Updated with a bright, minimalist design, it offers spacious, comfortable guest rooms and a lively bar/restaurant offering an interesting menu and lots of buzzing atmosphere. There's a terraced area ideal for warmer days. It's a welcome choice if you're looking for accommodation away from the busy centre and the popular tourist trails. Although not particularly geared to families, the park and playground areas on your doorstep make it a good choice for those with children.

THE DETAILS

Food & Drink

The simplest things are done well. The plate of wild oysters with gin, samphire, lime and black pepper was divine both to look at and taste. Dishes are unusual, for example Belgian dish Gent waterzooi (stew) with guinea fowl, carrot, watercress and spring onion was delicious.

Bar & Restaurant: garden-themed restaurant and terrace. International cuisine, locally-sourced produce. Serving light bites and large plates. All-day menu, open daily.
