Hyatt Place London City East, London
A stylish hotel in the heart of the East End and on the edge of London's financial district. The City is just a 20-minute walk away, while the vibrant bars, restaurants and vintage shops of Brick Lane are on the doorstep. Decor is influenced by the local street art scene, with bespoke commissions brightening the reception area and rooftop cocktail bar. Some of the spacious rooms have dual aspect windows and outdoor terraces to soak up the city skyline views. Food takes inspiration from the Middle East with flavoursome dishes such as mezze sharing platters in the basement restaurant, while the curated cocktails come with paired "bites" that elaborate East End stories in rooftop Pocket Square bar.
We enjoyed the sense of being in the heart of the real working city - it's gritty, but in a good way.
The hotel's City location - beside Aldgate East tube - means it's close to the bars of Shoreditch and Brick Lane, as well as the shops of Spitalfields
By car: the hotel is 4 hours from Manchester, 2 hours 30 mins from Birmingham and 7 hours from Glasgow. Public parking is available from £4 per hour.
By train: Liverpool Street Station is 15 minutes' walk away. Kings Cross and Euston stations are around 30 minutes away in a taxi. thetrainline.com
