WHAT WE LOVE...

The George is the ideal spot to lay your head after making the Wightlink crossing from Lymington, as the ferry docks just beside the hotel. The 17th-century townhouse was once the grand home of the governor of the island, Admiral Sir Robert Holmes, who often hosted King Charles II as a guest. Many original features remain, including a wide four-abreast staircase, which winds up from the entrance to the beautiful boutique rooms above. Expect excellent food at the Conservatory restaurant with Robert Thompson at the helm - he was the youngest British chef to be awarded a Michelin star back in 2007.

THE DETAILS...

Location

This upmarket boutique hotel is in an historic building right on the water's edge at Yarmouth, in the north of the Isle of Wight. We love wandering around the quaint curio shops in the town and watching the comings and goings of the ferries on the water.

The hotel is close to the coastal path and the island's famous Needles, as well as Yarmouth Castle and pier.
By car: Ferries run every hour from Lymington and take around 40 minutes, with space for cars on-board. There is also a Pay and Display car park at the ferry terminal. The hotel does not have their own on-site parking but there is on-street parking throughout Yarmouth which is free overnight. The nearest long stay car park is River Road, around four minutes' walk from the hotel.
By train: Trains run regularly between London and Lymington Pier, next to the ferry terminal. thetrainline.com
