The Westbury, Dublin, Ireland
This is one of Dublin's most fashionable five-star hotels, with an unbeatable location in a pedestrianised area just steps from the shopping at Grafton Street, and surrounded by some of the city's best cafés, bars, restaurants and salons. Even though the hotel is in a buzzing city centre area, when you step through the hotel doors, the atmosphere inside the hotel is cosy, quiet and luxurious, with a vast lobby/lounge area perfect for afternoon tea, a choice of two restaurants and a bar. The hotel is perfect for someone who wants the ultimate in luxury and five-star service but also to be near the city's best shopping and nightlife.
Step out of the hotel onto Grafton Street; you're so close you can pop back mid-shopping to offload your bags.
As well as the shops, you're within walking distance of city sights including Dublin Castle, Irish Whiskey Museum and St Stephen's Green.
By plane: direct flights to Dublin from Manchester and Birmingham (1 hour), and London (1 hour 15 minutes). It's a 35-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs €25 per day. skyscanner.net

The terrace at Wilde has a Parisian feel with tall French doors, tiled floors, plants and lovely street views. In Balfes, we loved the healthy turkey burger with guacamole, paprika sweet potato wedges, salsa and slaw - created in consultation with a local fitness expert.
