The Mayson, Dublin, Ireland
The Mayson is a sociable spot on Dublin's north quays, with a buzzing bar and restaurant, a rooftop steakhouse, large gym, relaxation pool, steam room and sauna - and even a barber. The hotel is divided between a modern six-floor glass and steel building built over a red brick warehouse, and a Georgian townhouse. Rooms in the modern part are cosy pod-style spaces and are well equipped with everything from a well-stocked minibar, Nespresso machine and snack tray to a Marshall speaker, smart TV and power shower. In the townhouse side, rooms have original Georgian features like fireplaces, high ceilings and sash windows. Suites in both buildings have extra luxuries like freestanding baths and turntables, and many rooms have super docklands views.
Your expert reviewer
The hotel offers views over the River Liffey and the docklands.
Located on the docks, you're a short walk from the food market at Central Square and 30 minutes from the shops and sights of Grafton Street.
By plane: direct flights to Dublin from Manchester and Birmingham (1 hour), and London (1 hour 15 minutes). It's a 15-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs €30 per day. skyscanner.net

Someone who is in the city for a fun night out and does not mind a small hotel room will like it here. There's a fun vibe through the design of the corridors, with geometric carpets and mirrored ceilings.

The Shanley Townhouse Suite has two huge sash windows, an original fireplace, bookshelves and comfortable armchairs. We loved the huge freestanding copper baths in some of the suites.
