WHAT WE LOVE...

It's two AA Rosette dining rather than school dinners here, though you may be asked to pull up an old desk complete with ink-well to enjoy a pint or bar snack at this quirky 18th-century public house. The 1755 pub is filled with bric-a-brac and old prints, gathered by previous owner Graeme Jameson before it was bought by Fuller's, each telling a story. Dishes on the eclectic menu are creative and delicious - think plant-based wild strawberry mille feuille and crispy ox tongue. Bedrooms have been stylishly refurbished to a high standard - choose from vintage elegance with a four-poster bed, chandeliers and a roll-top bath or contemporary chic where retro steamer trunks double as bedside tables.

Style & Character

Couples, business people and visitors looking for a centrally located city hotel will love staying here. We loved browsing the memorabilia which provides a fascinating trip down memory lane.

Food & Drink

There's a variety of dishes on offer from devilled mushrooms with duck egg to plant-based wild strawberry mille feuille. The crumble dessert daintily wrapped in ribbons of apple was as pretty as a picture and tasted absolutely divine.

The Wykeham Arms: 2 AA-Rosette country pub. British cuisine and pub classics including lamb pie, loin of hake and coq au vin. Open daily from 12pm.
