WHAT WE LOVE...
Built in 1889 as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, this stately building off Unter den Linden has found a new life as a magnificent five star hotel created by the Rocco Forte family. Two more floors were added to the original three-story building, allowing for the creation of calmly luxurious rooms and suites and a superb roof terrace bar with views over the city centre. Opened in 2006, Hotel de Rome is now a fixture on the high-flying Berlin scene with a separate entrance for celebrities and a grand ballroom hosting prestigious events. If you're up for sipping a negroni sbagliato at the CHIARO bar, recharging with a 'Surrender' massage at De Rome Spa and stepping out into streets lined with knockout museums, the staff are ready and waiting.

Many of Berlin's great museums are within walking distance, including the new Humboldt Forum and the Friedrichswerdersche Kirche exhibiting 19th century sculptures from the Nationalgalerie Collection.

Style & Character
This hotel suits fans of the Rocco Forte style, foodies and spa-lovers. We loved the sense of history; the old jewellery vault is now the spa and still has its 17 inch-thick metal door.

The historic suites on the first floor were once offices for bank managers and come with high ceilings, original wood-panelling and a view over Bebelplatz. The plush beds are extremely comfortable with a grand headboard, high quality linen and monogrammed robes and slippers for lounging in.

CHIARO is perfect for that après-sightseeing or shopping cocktail - bag a bar stool and try the Kiwano made with rum, lime and Asian gooseberry. The spaghetti ice cream is created at your table, and features white chocolate, miso caramel and Umeboshi (salted plum) strawberry sauce.
CHIARO: elegant restaurant, Italian-Japanese fusion cuisine. Open daily for breakfast and dinner. Open Mon-Fri for lunch, 12-3pm.
