WHAT WE LOVE...

Located in a lovely historic village within the South Downs National Park, a few miles from Lewes, this is a homely, traditional, 500-year-old village pub with comfortable rooms. Firle seems from a bygone age, with no street lamps, through traffic or yellow lines. It has attracted artists and writers for generations and indeed the writer Virginia Woolf moved here in 1910 and her sister, the painter and designer Vanessa Bell lived at nearby Charleston Farmhouse, which became a favourite haunt of the Bloomsbury group. The bar and restaurant areas have a boisterous atmosphere in the evenings, with roaring fires and hearty good food adding to the attraction.

More adult-orientated than for families, it's ideal for singletons, couples and groups of family or friends of all ages who appreciate a restful rural getaway. We loved the boisterous atmosphere in the bar in the evening, with a crackling fire, good beers and food. What more could you want?
