WHAT WE LOVE...

Sherborne is blessed with architectural beauty and a wealth of history, thanks to its honey-coloured stone buildings, stunning abbey and two castles. You can explore it all on foot from The Eastbury, which occupies a Georgian townhouse close to Sherborne's centre. There are homely rooms in the main house, more modern suites in the garden and a characterful 17th-century, three-bedroom cottage will appeal to families wanting to self-cater. It's far more peaceful than you'd expect from a town centre hotel, with a tranquil walled garden at the rear. A hobbit house in the grounds contains a tiny spa. The restaurant is a highlight and serves modern British cuisine featuring local, seasonal produce. Children and dogs are made extremely welcome.

THE DETAILS

Location

The town centre location is convenient but the hotel is surprisingly peaceful, particularly in the garden.

By car: around 3 hours 15 minutes from London, 1 hour 30 minutes from Bristol and 4 hours from Birmingham. Free parking available.
By train: trains from London Waterloo to Sherborne take 2 hours 30 minutes. The hotel is 10 minutes' walk. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

The hotel's central location and the town's rail link to London make it an easy car-free weekend destination. The Garden Suites offer the best of both worlds - private, modern accommodation a short walk from the historic main house.

Service & Facilities

A spherical glass pod nestled under trees in the garden is a memorable location for an intimate dinner. Pets are pampered, receiving a bed, bowls, treats, toy, even a welcome letter. They can also eat in the restaurant.
