WHAT WE LOVE...

When it comes to location, this hotel opposite Windsor Castle offers visitors a base in one of the best places in Windsor. Being so close to the castle, Guild Hall, Eton and quaint shopping streets means your stay will be jampacked. Popular for couples looking to get married in an iconic building - the Guild Hall - the Macdonald has a package combining the hall with a reception at the hotel. Locals love a drink at the bar or treating their visiting friends to an afternoon tea in a cosy atmosphere. Pick a room looking out to the street to see the traditional 'changing of the guards'.

Style & Character

It's the ideal base for a weekend getaway to explore Windsor. We really like the cosy sofa area in the long lobby leading to the reception, lovely for a coffee and newspaper. It would be perfect for a business traveller too, with two train stations nearby and seven function rooms.

Service & Facilities

The heating system is perfect; a steady warmth all day and night in the communal areas, but not dehydrating, and the room temperature is of course adjustable. If you pre-book you can have your pooch in your room with you as well as join you for afternoon tea, but not in the restaurant.

Rooms

Two rooms have a balcony which is perfect to watch the changing of the guards literally outside, the bridal suite has the biggest balcony. The Sapphire suite has a great view over the crooked house; the quirky notorious and forever leaning house dating back to 1718.

Facilities include: ensuite bath or shower, Elemis toiletries, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

We love the variety of small plates, always a nice option if you can't decide what to have; you can have a bit of everything. The Cornish crab arancini, crab bisque, al dente samphire and lemon dressing small plate is rich in flavour, but light in texture - lovely.

Caleys Brasserie: modern European cuisine, British classics. Open daily for dinner and weekends for lunch and dinner. Mains from £15.
Afternoon tea: finger sandwichs, cakes and scones. From £30 per person.
