WHAT WE LOVE...

Built in 1771 for the Marquess of Bath - who also gave his name to a code of conduct for boxing, known as the "Queensberry Rules" - four smart terraced Georgian townhouses have been turned into an elegant four AA star hotel in a discreet yet supremely central part of Bath. The 29 luxurious bedrooms (including three suites) boast a quirky sense of style and benefit from having Bath's only Michelin-starred restaurant handily located in the basement. It's the perfect choice for visitors to this historic city who want a fresh alternative to the more traditional places that make up most of Bath's other upmarket hotels.

THE DETAILS

THE LOCATION

Arguably offering the ideal location for a long weekend in historic Bath, the famous Roman Baths are a ten-minute walk, whilst The Royal Crescent, Assembly Rooms, Circus, Fashion Museum and Museum of East Asian Art are all within a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Within walking distance of nearly all the must-see sights, yet quietly tucked away on a smart residential street just around the corner from all the action.

By car: From London, the drive is 2 hours and 30 minutes. From Bristol, the drive is 36 minutes.

By train: From Paddington, the train takes around 1 hours and 20 minutes. From Bristol, the train journey takes half an hour. After that, the walk takes 16 minutes to the hotel. Instead, a taxi ride takes 8 minutes. Book trains to Bath.

CHARACTER & STYLE

The Queensberry exudes a distinctive charm - incorporating playful design elements, like the tongue-in-cheek rendition of the Queensberry Rules in the bar (e.g., Rule #8 advises guests to remove motorcycle helmets before drinking). Yet, it maintains an air of refined elegance befitting its luxury hotel status.

THE FACILITIES

The well-dressed staff are endearing and helpful without appearing smarmy and this four-star establishment exudes a five-star atmosphere, with the only notable omissions being a swimming pool and gym, though there is the Thermae Spa to relax in.

FOOD & DRINK

Renowned for its high quality, The Olive Tree is located in The Queensberry's basement. Head Chef Chris Cleghorn, mentored by esteemed chefs like Heston Blumenthal, Michael Caines and Adam Simmonds, has earned the restaurant Bath's sole Michelin star, making it a must-visit destination when in Bath. We love the unexpectedly successful combination of dark chocolate mousse with yoghurt sorbet and sliced olives in oil for dessert.

The Olive Tree: Classic flavours, seasonal ingredients, modern techniques. Bath's only Michelin starred restaurant. 3 AA Rosette status. Five courses for £70, seven courses for £90. Open 12.30pm-1.30pm Friday-Sunday and 6pm-9pm Tuesday-Sunday.
